Letter from your Student Body President

Have an idea on how to improve our campus? Let us know! The Student Government Association has been working very hard this semester by making improvements to our school. From a new keypad lock on the Rouse Hall door, to extended ours in the cafeteria, we have written resolutions much like these two that have promoted many forms of change on our campus and even in the community. Just to give you an idea, our freshmen are currently working on raising funds to support our school’s very own cancer research center, the sophomores are behind an initiative to bring business discounts for students and staff, the juniors created a playful enviornment for kids at our Homecoming Kids Festival and our seniors are underway to raise more than $10,000 for our new Student Center!

There is such much more going on in SGA that I barely have enough space to tell you about so if you have any interest in serving with the Student Government Association or were wanting more information on what we are currently working on then come stop by one of our SGA meetings that take place every Wednesday night from 9pm-10pm in Johnston 104 or feel free to email me at tseear3364. I would love to get you involved.

Freshman Class Runoffs

This year we had 10 individuals run for the 8 available positions. Additionally, we are glad to have had about a 40% voting rate from the freshman class and are excited about the year ahead!

Due to the closeness in result percentages, we will need to have a runoff election tomorrow, Thursday September 1st. The runoff will be between Trinka Dorsey and Madison Bronson.

The winner of that race will join seven other individuals as the Freshman Class representatives in SGA. Those members will be announced at the conclusion of tomorrow’s runoff.

If you are a member of the freshman class, be sure to check your email in the morning to vote in this race!

SGA Elections TODAY

Every fall ambitious freshman vie for one of the 7 senator positions within Student Government. The freshmen class will elect 8 senators, and the SGA senate body will select one of those senators to serve as the Freshmen Class President. We are very excited that this year there are ten individuals running for these eight positions.

Elections began this morning and will end at 3 p.m. today. All freshmen received an email invitation with a link to vote online. SGA and Student Activities hope that the iPad initiative increases the number of students who vote due to the ease of checking their AU email and accessing the internet.

Results will be announced this evening and all new SGA officers will be sworn in at Wednesday’s Senate meeting.

What issues do you think SGA should focus on this year?
